Vistella previously known as Staunchh was a business idea from when David was a student at Kingston University as part of a start-up module. He formed a team and was eager to address a current problem faced by society as opposed to creating a product for the sake of his module. Upon their research, they discovered a problem with cycling casualties in the UK & Europe; with over 16,000 cyclist casualties in the UK every year, according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, and 75 percent of these taking place at, or near, a road junction. They realized that a bright and clear indication at junctions was paramount for cyclists, so they decided to do something about it.
Their idea was very popular within Kingston University as they began their winning streak; Shortlisted from a record-breaking 600 entries they secured the top prize at Kingston University’s Bright Ideas competition. Bright Ideas forms part of the University’s successful programme of enterprise activities and sees students pitch their business to such industry experts as Kingston University alumnus Yoganthan Rathesan, founder of global telecommunications company Lebara. They extended their winning streak, being crowned Young Enterprise Start-Up Company of the Year 2016 at the UK Final. They battled it out against 1,639 students from 296 teams, with nine other universities and FE college teams across the UK. They were awarded with the ‘Best Presentation’ as well as ‘Best Overall Company’. David then went on alone to represent the United Kingdom in the European championships held in Bucharest where he was awarded the JA Leadership award.
